The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) Mediation Voucher Scheme
The MOJ have set up a voucher scheme for families who need to discuss future arrangements for their children as part of the mediation process. The voucher is worth up to £500 per case and is not means tested. Your mediator will discuss the voucher scheme with you during your initial telephone consultation. The MOJ funding does not cover the cost of the Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM)
Legal Aid
As mediators, we can offer legal aid through our partner provider Access Mediation Direct. If you are eligible, the Legal Aid Agency will pay for all your mediation costs so that the entire process will be free for you. If your former partner qualifies for legal aid and you do not, the Legal Aid Agency will pay for your MIAM and the first joint mediation session.
You can still qualify for legal aid even if you work full-time and own a property. A lot of our clients are surprised to learn they are eligible for legal aid. Your mediator will ask you whether you wish to apply for legal aid during the initial telephone consultation.
If you reach proposals regarding financial arrangements in mediation, you could also be entitled to some free legal advice and help to make your proposals binding if your solicitor has a contract with the Legal Aid Agency.
Private fees
The cost of the MIAM is £100. If you require a MIAM certificate there is no extra charge for this. Our rate for the time you spend in mediation sessions is £100 per hour per person. There is no charge for summaries/outcome statements in children’s matters.
In finance matters there is a flat fee of £100 per person if we complete an Open Financial Statement (OFS) for you and a flat fee of £100 per person for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining your agreed financial proposals or any financial summaries sent to you during the course of the mediation sessions. We do not charge for initial consultations, telephone calls or emails.
If your former partner qualifies for legal aid then as mentioned above, your initial MIAM with a mediator and your first joint mediation session will be free of charge. If you require a MIAM certificate there will be an administration charge of £50.
Each party is responsible for their own costs. If one party chooses to pay the fees of the other party then that is a private arrangement and both parties remain liable for their own costs.
